Homestay Program for MCC Students 2009

All the way from the Hawaiian island of Maui, 8 students and 3 faculty members of Maui Community College (MCC) visited KNCT from June 5th to 8th. The students did a homestay and had a good time with KNCT students and their families.

On the first day, after the opening ceremony, the MCC students experienced Japanese tea ceremony. About 60 people attended the welcome party in the evening, and all of them enjoyed singing and dancing together.

On 6th and 7th, students had to use their communication skills both in English and Japanese during a special class at KNCT, and together they visited Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Miyajima. In the evening, every MCC student enjoyed Japanese culture with his/her host family, such as eating rotating sushi, singing karaoke, wearing yukata, or soaking in a hot public bath.

On the last day, they had okonomiyaki, our local specialty, and visited Mazda Museum. After saying farewell to their host students, they left for the next destination, Himeji and Kyoto by Shinkansen.

KNCT and MCC signed a partnership agreement 10 years ago. Since then, a group of KNCT students has visited MCC every year. Some of the host students are going to join the homestay program and visit Maui this October.

Study Tour

KNCT faculty members and selected students visit Maui every year in order to enhance mutual understanding between the two colleges. Our students participate in Japanese language classes held at MCC, and both KNCT and MCC students practice speaking English and Japanese in turn, making the most of the opportunity. During the visit, MCC students host our students and spend most of their time together. MCC faculty members and students visited Kure in 2006 as well.

Educational Exchange

KNCT and MCC have continued our educational exchanges using the Internet technology since 1997. Now, in the class called Oral Communication II, which is designed specifically for educational exchange, students regularly interact with each other through SkypeTM (video conference software) and improve their listening and speaking skills.
